Have you ever been interested in the history of Karate? Well Tony Penna is a Connecticut local that knows anything and everything about the origin of karate, and is a master in Shorin-Ryu karate. Shorin-Ryu was the first form of karate, and it came from a small island off the coast of Japan, known as Okinawa. Karate was originally created because Japan banned all weapons, so citizens took it upon themselves to learn self-defence using just their hands and tools. Penna discusses his history in karate, and how it has shaped him into the man he is today. He uncovers why karate is important, shares his own stories of why karate was created, through the warriors way. He ended the interview sharing some wisdom about how fighting is not a good way to solve things.
After the interview, I asked one of his top students to demonstrate a Kata, which are essentially memorized fight sequences. In the video you can see Alex performing the Tokamina Bo Kata.
I completed everything for this video such as editing, filming, scheduling, and script writing. Although it is far from perfect it did teach me a lot about this process, and improved all the skills I applied to this interview.
