Exploring After Effects

I created a visual lyric video to one of my favorite songs, Flashing Lights. It has one of the most inspirational intros so I thought it’d be perfect. My goal was to create an immersive space that visualizes the sound effectively using color changing backgrounds, lighting, and text animation. The introduction to this song is fairly short, so capturing all of the subtle sound effects was integral to the success of this project.

I started with a background and I wanted it to move and mold colors in a subtle, fluid way, so I grabbed a few complimentary colors and had them fusing and molding into each other. Something dramatic like a lightning strike worked perfectly for the first few lead notes. I added a custom font for the writing, and several different effects on the writing so it would pop, move, and shimmer. I found a incredible starry effect for the last few seconds so used an effect that turned out to be surprisingly easy with moving lights that look like stars called ‘cc ball action’. A quick fade-out of the music and the introduction was all good to go.

Overall I’m very happy with this final project, I learned more doing this project then any other. Having the creative freedom to do what I want is invaluable to my motivation and fulfillment as I work, I could definitely see myself continuing to do more projects like this in the future.
